The ideal kick-off to the festival is the freely accessible Haarlem Organ Day, or:
All of Haarlem Organs. Six beautiful Haarlem churches will open between 10.15:17.00 AM and 10.30:10.15 PM and the organists will treat visitors to exciting new and age-old sounds. The whole Haarlem Orgelt starts at XNUMX am (entry from XNUMX am) in the Great Hall of the PHIL where the organist Jeroen Koopman plays the famous Cavaillé-Coll organ. Laurens de Man and 3 choirs conducted by László Nemes

The opening concert of the festival is the world premiere of A Child of Books by the Belgian composer Bart Verheyen. Inspired by the children's book of the same name by Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston, Verheyen composed a beautiful and new work full of imagination. László Nemes conducts the National Children's Choir and National Mixed Choir, and Laurens de Man (winner of the Dutch Music Prize) plays the Müller organ. A special choir, composed of students from the Rudolf Steiner School, Youth Choir Spaarne and children from the Vrije School Kleverpark, is istudied by the Haarlem conductor Marina Besselink.

After the first round, 6 participants have been selected for this second evening of the Improvisation Competition. The Joseph Church has a different organ than the Mennonite Church, which forces the participants to approach the assignments very differently. What is special is that violinist Oene van Geel will be there as a 'special guest' and with whom the participants will improvise a piece of music together. Furthermore, an improvisation assignment that touches several senses and has never been given in a competition before!

The finalists are given two assignments to complete. They will only receive the assignment one hour before the start of the concert.
