Great St. Laurens Church Alkmaar

Organ concerto

Nathan Laube and Pieter van Dijk

In 17th and 18th century Europe, merchants played an important role in the spread of music. Although composers such as Bach, Buxtehude and the Dutchman Van Noordt never crossed their national borders, their compositions were taken on trade missions and became widely known. There is therefore a good chance that Weckmann and Buxtehude, working in the Hanseatic cities of Hamburg and Lübeck, were inspired by Van Noordt's works - even though they never shook hands. The latter will happen – in a figurative and musical sense – during this concert on two of the most beautiful organs in the Netherlands. And in Bach all these European influences come together.
