Course 3: Monika Melcová: Improvisation
One of the foundations of the Haarlem festival is improvising on the organ. When the Summer Academy was created as part of the festival, the art of improvisation was central from the start. We are proud that we have found the Slovak/Spanish Monika Melcová willing to lead one of the improvisation courses of our Summer Academy.
After her studies in Košice, in Vienna with Michael Radulescu and in Paris with Olivier Latry and Michel Bouvard, Monika Melcová was appointed organist in residence at the Sapporo Concert Hall KITARA, Japan. Since 2008 she has been professor of Improvisation at the Music Academy MUSIKENE in San Sebastian. From 2020 to 2022 she was a visiting professor at the Royal Danish Music Academy in Copenhagen. In addition to being a teacher, she will also perform as a jury member of the Improvisation Competition at the Haarlem Organ Festival.
