Course 18: Roman Summereder: Heiller, Hindemith, Schoenberg and contemporaries – Key works from the 20th century organ repertoire

This course program reflects the special stylistic features of organ music composed in the period between late romanticism and the avant-garde of the 1960s, apart from the French school. The Haarlem academy teachers Anton Heiller and Siegfried Reda were involved in these artistic developments, as composers, performers and organ reformers.
In addition to being an improvising organist, Heiller was also an important composer who always had the Müller organ in Haarlem in mind. That is why, 101 years after his birth, in addition to a special symposium on Sunday, July 21, a course on his works and those of important contemporaries should not be missed.
Summereder studied in Vienna (with Anton Heiller, among others) and Brussels, and since 1979 he has been a teacher at the Musikhochschule of Vienna, from 1999 as an organ teacher and from 2002 with a professorial appointment. During many master classes he focuses on the organ repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries and has made and continues to make many recordings of the organ works of Heiller, David, Hindemith, Schönberg, Reda, Messiaen and Ligeti.
