Course 12
Course 12: Peter Planyavsky: Improvisation
Peter Planyavsky had been a guest in Haarlem for many years, first as a competition participant, later as a teacher and jury member. His name is closely linked to that of his teacher Anton Heiller. Like no other, he represents in Europe the tradition that started with Heiller and continues to develop to this day, including in Haarlem. During this course, the emphasis is mainly on the craft aspects of improvisation. This will undoubtedly lead to lively discussions at the keyboards!
Peter Planyavsky studied organ and church music with Anton Heiller in his hometown of Vienna. In 1969 he was appointed organist of St. Stephen's Cathedral in the Austrian capital, a position that ended in 2004. From 1980 Planyavsky taught organ and improvisation at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater in Vienna, where he worked from 1996 was also director of the church music training until 2003.
